LGBT Train the Trainer!

The ASU Center for Applied Behavioral Health Policy (CABHP) is excited to host a Training of Trainers (TOT) for the Provider’s Introduction to Substance Abuse Treatment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Individuals curricula published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This three-day TOT will be held at CABHP located on the ASU Downtown campus, September 12-14, 2011, the cost for the two and one-half day training $179. 

The TOT curriculum was created to “translate” A Provider’s Introduction into a training experience with visual aids and opportunities for discussion and practice.  The curriculum is intended to provide both practitioners and administrators involved in substance abuse treatment with:

• Increased familiarity with the issues and barriers faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in need of substance use disorder-related services;
  
• Knowledge about the interaction between LGBT issues and substance use and abuse;
  
• Enhanced ability to offer sensitive, affirmative, culturally relevant, and effective treatment to LGBT clients in substance use disorders treatment.

Master Trainer, Thomas E. Freese, Ph.D., Director, Pacific Southwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center, and Director of Training, UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs, will be conducting this TOT with co-facilitators Cielo Mohapatra, ADHS, and Riggo Contreras, the Partnership.
